INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD

As proclaimed in its mission statement, ICP is committed to promoting human rights, dignity, and justice, and strengthening collaboration among researchers, educators and applied professionals globally to further international understanding and world peace.

This award recognizes work being done by psychologists to advance human rights.  The award is given to a psychologist or a group/organization largely composed of psychologists that has done substantial work to address human rights issues locally or globally through education, research, service or advocacy. Human rights are defined broadly and include social, cultural, economic, civil, and political rights.

Award Description

  • The awardee is invited to present an ICP webinar, and encouraged to participate in the ICP Annual Conference, with waived conference registration fee
  • The award carries an honorarium of $300, an award certificate, and an award memento.

  • 2023: Niels Rygaaard, Fairstart, Denmark
  • 2022 Ufra Mir, Kashmir (inaugural award)

Eligibility

  • Individual nominees must be psychologists (as recognized in the country where they work) engaged in work that promotes human rights
  • Organizational nominees must be organizations, associations or consortia composed primarily of psychologists engaged in work that promotes human rights

Nomination Materials and Procedure

Nominations must be submitted online here.

Nominations include:

  • Cover letter from the nominator
  • Curriculum Vitae of the Nominee (if nominee is an individual) or
  • Additional Letter detailing how the nominee fits the award criteria (for organizational nominees)

An award selection committee will review the nominations. The award recipient will be asked to give a talk at the ICP conference or a lecture or webinar.
The award recipient will receive a certificate and a plaque and an honorarium of $300.
